No wonder we’re so divided. We can’t even agree we’re a great country.
You can take issue with politicians all day long, but our Constitution? Our Declaration? Two of the greatest charters of Liberty ever crafted in human history. Again, you can quibble all day long with how well we’ve kept the promise of those documents, but there’s absolutely no question about American Exceptionalism.
We’re the first country ever founded on what a government cannot, must not, do to you. The first country ever to elevate the individual and individual Liberty above all else. No other country on earth has ever done it, nor is currently doing it. This is not arguable. Once again, argue all day long about how well we’ve kept that promise, but there’s no question that George Washington’s admonition to the Continental Congress endures: “Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair.” In other words, set those standards high.
There’s nothing wrong with America that can’t be repaired by cleaving ever closer to our Founding. That’s the cure.
