Fall is Coming to the Blue Ridge…

…and I am sooooooo here for it.

We’ve been very lucky this summer. It hasn’t been hideously hot all the way through. In fact, it’s been a downright pleasant August, albeit daily afternoon/evening rain during the first half, but since then? Temps in the high 70s… It’s been glorious lately and the forecast shows temps in the 70s as far as the eye can see.

July, admittedly, was ghastly. But it gets hideously hot up in MA too, so I’ll take it. I’ll take hot summers here then a mild winter here all day long and twice on Sunday rather than a single nor’easter thank you very much. Been there. Done that. Enough enough enough!

Fall brings Coryne doing her practicum in counseling where she is working at an equine therapy barn. How exciting for her! And in November, Kaela has bravely and sensibly decided that children are something she doesn’t want at all so she will have a tubal ligation. Mike and I are both greatly relieved by this decision. She’s a bit nervous about the surgery, having never had surgery before. “I can’t believe I’m going to be cut open,” she says. But we’ll get her through it.

Both twins have very nice “mates.” Coryne has Nico, a lovely young lady from Charlotte. They’ve been going strong for the better part of a year now. And Kaela has Akari, a lovely young man from Morganton who treats her extremely well. Like Kaela, he has an intellectual disability. They’ve been together for about six months now. They’ve had a few bumps but 99% of their time together has been solid.

Leigh is facing possible surgery before the year is out to relieve her of incredibly painful and unpleasant periods. They’re trying to see if an I.U.D. will help her but mostly it’s to be able to tell the insurance company that they tried everything and hysterectomy is essential. She’s not quite 30, which is extremely young for such a thing, but it’s all been explained to her and she knows she will have to be good about taking her calcium, etc. to maintain her bones. I did not do that after my hysterectomy at 40 and now I’ve got bones like coral, so I set exactly the wrong example for her to learn from!

Mike and I are greatly looking forward to our trip to OBX in a few weeks!
