Happy 4th! See “Sons of Liberty”!

From Amazon Prime Video:

“Sons of Liberty is a miniseries that follows a defiant and radical group of young men – Sam Adams, John Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Dr. Joseph Warren – as they band together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation.”

From The History Channel website:

“Men who dubbed themselves Sons of Liberty helped spark the American Revolution; the young rebels from varied backgrounds struggled to find purpose in their lives but eventually became legends. The men started by seeking equality, but they found something even better — Independence. The featured firebrands in the historical drama miniseries include charismatic leader Sam Adams, artisan/militia-man Paul Revere, conservative lawyer John Adams, Gen. George Washington, and brilliant-but-mischievous diplomat Ben Franklin.

It is not a documentary; it’s a truly wonderful dramatization that takes a tiny bit of license with a main character; they have him have an affair for which there is no proof (clandestine by nature so…) but there were rumors of this woman helping the cause of Liberty. (It’s brief, and not at all tawdry.) Regardless, it’s largely faithful historically, is a joy to watch, and really helps you appreciate the immense bravery of these men who gave us our freedom. If you’re feeling cynical about politics these days, this will give you something noble to chew on. I can’t say it will help with the cynicism, as it might serve only to remind you that we have a dearth of men like this in positions of power, but if you can push that aside, it’s a great reminder of what a towering and humbling legacy we’ve been given, and how precious it is. We can all do with a reminder of that, right? Honestly, I can’t recommend it highly enough! I think I’ve watched it three or four times at least.

Note: It’s one season only, comprised of 3 episodes.

I don’t know if it’s available for free anywhere, because I’m showing at some point I bought it on Amazon Prime. One of my searches for it shows that it’s available for free on Amazon but with ads. But I know I watched it for free (without ads) the first time so maybe it’s still out there, I just don’t know. The History Channel, which I believe produced it, has a page for it so maybe it’s there on demand. It’s also available on AppleTV for purchase.

Dr. Joseph Warren, the character at the far left of the lineup in the graphic above, (and the one who had the affair) is a major character in “Sons of Liberty.” American Thinker did a wonderful recitation of his life and accomplishments here. Careful! If you don’t know his fate, don’t read it! There are spoilers in there. If you do know his fate, you will see that it tracks very closely to the exact period of time, 1775, in “Sons of Liberty.”

Finally, I saw this X post today and thought it was interesting. As it relates to another major character in “Sons of Liberty,” John Adams, I decided to share it here.
